C. Matthew Nelson – Chief Operating Officer


Matthew has over 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors.  His passion is using his experience in the private sector to help nonprofits increase their impact and change the world.

As Vice President of Technology at Points of Light and HandsOn Network, he managed technical platforms and partnerships that supported a network of 270+ affiliates, 1.2 million volunteers and 50,000+ nonprofit partners.  These platforms helped connect volunteers with nonprofits to serve over 10MM hours annually.   In this position he also developed and expanded strategic partnerships with organizations including Starbucks, Nike, Salesforce.com, Facebook Causes and The Walt Disney Company.

Matthew was instrumental in the design, sale and implementation of Give a Day, Get a Disney Day, an innovative cause marketing partnership with The Walt Disney Company  that registered one million volunteers for service projects at over 15,000 nonprofit organizations nationwide in just 10 weeks.  This project was an extraordinary success, and connected as many volunteers to service in the first 10 weeks of 2010 as were during the previous 12 months at HandsOn Network.

In the corporate arena he’s been a partner in successful startups, managed strategic services for marketing consulting firms, directed marketing and business development and has overseen projects and project teams on multi-million dollar projects.

His nonprofit experience includes leadership positions with Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Community Consulting Teams of Atlanta, Samaritan House of Atlanta and United Way. He holds an MBA from Cornell University, a BS from Florida State University and certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Professional Direct Marketer (PDM).
